The heat transfer printing method applies custom designs to fabrics through a process that uses a combination of heat and pressure.
There are several types of transfers. Vinyl transfers are cut out of sheets of colored vinyl. Multiple colored designs require different pieces for each color. The vinyl pieces are then placed on the garment and heat is applied using a heat press. Digitally printed transfers are similar to vinyl, but the material is white and usually thinner. A special digital print/cut machine prints the image and cuts away the area around the image. The remaining printed vinyl is then applied in a similar fashion. Another method utilizes special transfer paper. Designs are screen printed onto this transfer paper which is placed on the garment. Heat and pressure are applied and the image is transferred from the paper to the garment. The paper is then removed and discarded.
Often used when apparel needs to be personalized with a name and/or number, transfers can also be used when small quantities are needed on a repeat basis. Rather than have a large inventory of shirts, it is some times more cost effective to inventory transfers and apply as needed.
Depending on the specific requirements of the project, transfers can be an appropriate method to employ for t-shirts or spirit wear.
At Branding Pros, we have all the equipment necessary to apply any of the different types of transfers right in the shop.
